Somaliland is an autonomous region, which is part of the Somali republic located in the Horn of Africa. Those who call the area the "Republic of Somaliland" consider it to be the successor state of the former British Somaliland protectorate. Having established its own local government in Somalia in 1991, the region's self-declared independence remains unrecognized by any country or international organization.

Somaliland is bordered by Ethiopia in the south and west, Djibouti in the northwest, the Gulf of Aden in the north, and, internally, by Puntland in the east (another Somali region that also claims some of the territory claimed by Somaliland). Somaliland immense, unspoiled white sand beaches of Las Geel and Berbera will take your breath away and the islands off Zeila will one day be a mecca for divers.
