After a prolonged gestation period, an old star has been reborn on a leafy square opposite the Capitolio, Havanas version of the dome in Washington DC. The original Hotel Saratoga, carved out of an 1880s neoclassical building, had its heyday in the 1930s but closed shortly after the revolution. After an ignoble period as a boarding house, it was left to rot. With few original features left to save, the new hotel has been built from scratch behind the old façade.
It echoes the original (the central atrium, the shutters, the grand entrance) and there is much marble in evidence, as well as fabulously reproduced 1930s lamps. But this is a modern sanctuary rather than a quirkily restored landmark, and it has aspirations to international standards. An impressive collection of contemporary Cuban art decorates the public spaces, and the 96 bedrooms are either colonial in style (huge French windows with slatted shutters, floor tiles lovingly copied from the originals, mahogany furniture from Spain), or contemporary.
Junior Suite Saratoga: 49 rooms with excellent outside views of the Capitol building and Fraternity Park. Those with high ceilings are colonial in style, having four-poster king-size beds. Rooms have window seats which extend right along one side of the room; these are luxuriously cushioned for lazy afternoons watching the street activity.
Standard Patio Room: 40 standard rooms of 32 sq. meters with an interior window view looking out to the central courtyard.
The bathrooms are smallish, but impressively finished. The Anacoana restaurant is named after Cubas famous all-girl salsa band who were resident here in the 1930s. This is by far the smartest new hotel in Havana for years, providing levels of comfort other, admittedly more characterful, Havana hotels can only dream of.
The location couldnt be better for sightseeing, and the rooftop pool and bar area, with views over crumbling old palaces to the sea, is a wonderful place to hang out.

Maravilloso todo eso

The Saratoga is the coolest hotel in Havana. Its elegant facade overlooks all the other 19th-century architectural splendours along the Paseo del Prado, including Havana's exquisite opera house. It's got a Mudejar-inspired restaurant, a Maugham-ish courtyard bar, the city's best rooftop pool and fabulous rooms, many of which have long cushioned window seats from which to watch the frenetic local street life. The mountain murals behind the bar with their multicoloured light display are the last word in urban kitsch.

Having stayed at the Saratoga in June 2009 we don't have any problems in recommending it to anyone who want's Location, location, location.
The hotel is a nice building with much colonial history, and now has been fully restored to a very high standard.. Our room was lovely and because we were on honeymoon the management treated us to a very special bottle of wine and a complimentary dinner at the Anacaona Restaurant.. In the morning we had breakfast in the hotel, which was included, with the food and service excellent.
Here is a surprise for everyone, the top floor had a beautiful swimming pool, which is just what is needed on Havana's seriously hot days, to say nothing of the views that came with it for free from the rooftop We spent many hours there soaking up the mojitos and the views..it was so amazing. Throughout the hotel, both upstairs on the terrace and in the reception, the staff here were so friendly. During our stay there , we did have a problem though, which was of a personal nature , nothing to do with the hotel, except that the conscierge took it upon herself to help us, suceeded, and thanks to her we were able to enjoy the rest of our stay in Cuba. Yes, this is a lovely hotel, we couldn't fault it, mind you we are on our honeymoon. Seriously though, we did enjoy this hotel and we are going back to Cuba next year, and our port of call should we visit Havana with be the 'Saratoga''

Saratoga Hotel is probably one of the few hotels in Havana that deserve a 5 star category. From the roof top swimming pool you can admire the splendor of the Old Town while relaxing on a sun bed. This hotel has 96 rooms divided in suites, junior suites and deluxe patio rooms.

Most buildings in Cuba are run down, and they are all owned by the government, or at least in partnership with the government. There are a few notable exceptions like the Hotel Nacional and the Hotel Saratoga, but by and large the government has figured out how to screw up what could have been one of the most architecturally beautiful cities in the world.

Havana is, perhaps unsurprisingly, home to the very best hotels in Cuba. There are plenty to choose from, but the Saratoga is perhaps the pick of the bunch. The hotel of choice for artists and writers since the 1930’s, the Saratoga is a stunning colonial hotel in the heart of Havana.

We stayed at the Saratoga Hotel for seven nights in April and as seasoned travellers we can be hard to please at times, but we could find no fault with this hotel. The staff are incredibly friendly and efficient. We had a deluxe patio room which was very comfortable and roomy and the bathroom was spacious and well-stocked with toiletries. There was a well-stocked mini-bar and the chambermaid service was very efficient. We used the pool bar, the mezzanine bar and the hotel restaurant and were impressed by the standard of food and service. After checking out most of the other 4/5 star hotels in Havana we were extremely pleased that we were in this particular hotel.
