Hotel Playa Pesquero, Playa Pesquero, Holguin, Cuba

Its construction and decoration recreate the region’s entire cultural traditions

Located in Holguin, Eastern Cuba, where Christopher Columbus once landed, its warm waters and splendid sands are not the only attractions Pesquero Beach has to offer. It is now Cuba’s largest five-star hotel. Town and city hotel, it invites you to enjoy yourself, resting, swimming in the sea, listening to Caribbean rhythms, tasting quality cuisine and drinking a mojito in its enormous swimming pool. That’s how big it is. For all tastes. Because children, couples, friends and family members can discover Pesquero Beach, the ideal place for your holidays.

Its construction and decoration recreate the region’s entire cultural traditions and reproduces elements which personalize it, such as Holguin’s oldest train engine, its roads paved as if they were railroad tracks, housing blocks with names of streets and places in Holguin and Santiago de Cuba. A very original concept of local traditions and Caribbean images to unite tourism and culture in one integral product.

  • Great Hotel

    by David Gimenez

Myself, Husband and 12 year old son stayed at this hotel for 2 weeks from 18th May 09. Having read reviews at Christmas which were great we decided to book. Just before we went we started reading very negative reviews and thought about changing. We are so glad we didn't.

Accomodation: We stayed in Block 60 which was a great spot close to Pool, Lobby Bar etc., The room was very spacious clean and what we would have expected.

Food: There was so much choice from the buffet restaurant and many food stations cooking fresh fish, pasta, meat. There was also so many other dishes to choose from. We did not get to all the al a carte's but we did go to the Romantic, The Grill and The Italian all of which were very nice. Would have done more but our son loved the buffet and was eager to go off and play with friends. There was no need to tip but the people are so helpful and friendly we did as a matter of course.

In the Boulevard the 2 restaturants during the day are great, in particular the chicken place ideal if you want a taste of kentucky from home!!!!

Drinks - You could not have asked for more, never had to wait. If the bar was busy you could wait and your table and someone would come over to serve you.

The Pool - we arrived at numerous times of the day and always got a pick of where we wanted to sit. Go to the quiet end near the little bar we can recommend it.

Faciliites - we have never yet been anywhere when they say all is included where it really is. Went on catamarane and could have gone daily if we wanted, also Pedlos, Canoes, Tennis, Table Tennis, Hot Tubs etc.,

Take some banna's and rolls down to beach (which is beautiful around 6 in the evening) and feed the fish some amazing sights to be had.

People did get bites we met a few. However before we travelled we had been on this site and someone had recommended Boots Tropical with 50% Deet, I am sure this saved us as we did not get any bites and I am prone to getting them. We also made sure we kept doors closed during the day.

We are a very easy going family but we do like nice meals, with friendly staff and a few drinks, this ticked all the boxes and more.

Looking at some of these reivews we do feel people are expecting the Ritz but afterall this is Cuba and you only need to venture outside (which is safe) to see the poverty the rest of the country live with. Do the Horse and Cart ride (outside hotel reception) 15 pesos - this was a humbling experience.

The train goes at 9am everymorning from reception to Guardivalaca - take beach stuff for 4 hours of change of scenery and another great beach about 5 pesos each.

Can get bikes free from hotel if you want to explore - we did it was good fun, our son got over excited and the heat nearly made him pass out.

Also do the Dolphine trip - I cant say enough about this, was a lifetime ambition and it only takes a morning so does not take up too much of your holiday.

Trip was with Thompsons - great no problems, if they could only make it half the time to get there.

We would recomend this to anyone and feel free to email us for questions about this wonderful resort.
