This is our first visit to Cuba. The front desk attendant was not friendly and welcoming at all during our check in. She had no smile and looked very unpleasant. Upon entering our room, we noticed the musty smell that some reviewers wrote about. The bedsheets, blankets, pillow cases also did not have a fresh smell to them that is common in other hotels I've been to (not in Cuba). This made it difficult to tell if the bedsheets have been replaced at all or not. Our room was the Ocean View (2nd level) which gave a nice view of the beach!

We left a small bag consisting of soap, toothpaste, deodorant etc.. along with $1 every morning for our maid. In return she tried her best to keep our room perfect everyday. She eventually began giving is two rolls of toilet paper each morning in appreciation.

As for the food, I would rate it as average. I enjoyed most of it. The food seems to be ethnic most of the time...but at times they would serve roast beef along with mashed potatoes. Breakfast seems to be the best. You have a variety consisting of Eggs (mashed up, boiled, omelette), French Toast, Potatoes, Bread, Pancakes, and Fresh Squeezed juice which you can serve on your own.

Lunch and Dinner menu are often the same. Lunch is often served outside (weather permitting). There is always two types of rice to choose from as well as potatoes. They always have potatoes... breakfast, lunch or dinner! The main meal will be a choice of seafood or meat. BBQ is also available if lunch is served outside. Drinks during lunch or dinner is served by a waiter. During lunch, they serve drinks in small cups... you will often get less since the ice will take up most of space in the cup. The waiters will hardly pay attention to you unless you tip them. We began tipping after each meal, and they began serving us... passing by often to ask if we needed a refill. During dinner, the drinks are served in a wine glass so it is sufficient.

My only complaint about the meals is the fact that the indoor buffet room always has it's windows fully open! And these windows do not have any screens to keep the wildlife out. You will ALWAYS see birds perched up beside the buffet trays pecking at the food! Very appetizing as you sit there trying to enjoy your meal while swatting the flies away from your food! There are TONS of flies buzzing around the buffet area, landing on the food every now and then! I'm sure all food I've eaten had some sort of fly or bird particle/ remnants on them! The waiters don't seem to mind that the birds are enjoying the buffet either!

The beach itself was nice and clean. It is often not packed so it's easy to enjoy. The entire beach is a sudden drop, and on top of that...your feet will sink in to the sand as soon as you step in the water. I don't recommend someone who can't swim to jump in expecting it to be shallow. The current is also pretty strong at times and can easily drag a child to the deep end.

Upon check out, the front desk lady (not the same lady during check in) was also unpleasant. She didn't say bye or give any hint that she was done with us and our check out process.
